New research network unites Oxford University’s global fight against antimicrobial resistance
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global public health and development threat, causing at least one million deaths annually since 1990 and expected to cause another 39 million by 2050. The Oxford AMR Network, funded by the Ineos Oxford Institute for antimicrobial research, aims to tackle this challenge through multiple approaches. Over 200 researchers across Oxford are working on drug discovery, antibiotic stewardship, diagnostic tool development, and surveillance and epidemiology. The network will facilitate new collaborations and generate novel research to find solutions. AMR affects human and animal health, food availability, and economic stability, making Oxford ideally positioned to tackle this challenge due to its breadth of expertise and long-standing partnerships.
